You've got 5 minutes to safely grab anything you want from your house and take it with you. Everything else will get eaten by a dragon in 5 minutes. What would you take?

For me it was a change of clothes, my cats, thier food for about a weeks worth, a litterbox, my laptop (in its bag) my work laptop (in its bag) a few chef boyardee lunch things and my camera (in the lunch box). I also had some of the cat-care items: nail clippers, tooth cleaning gel, antihistamine all in a little bag that I grabbed when I grabbed my hairbrush. That and my old wallet which has my SSN card ( I dont carry that on me normally) - and my phone charger. All the small items got thrown in a basket. The cats was one trip, the litter and food was 1 trip, the basket was 1 trip, and all under 5 mins.

I know my vet has the shot records on file and would print them if I needed them. Any other legal documents I could get reprinted If I needed. I had my other identification on me.

But this is why its good to have an "Oh (censored)" Box or tub that has copies of everything you might need for you and your pets. medications, first aid, food, water, cat litter/litter box, change of clothes, ect. That way its grab the box, and grab the cats, and go go go! Luckily the house was fine. I probably would have only taken the cats and cat stuff if I really only had a couple of moments. I would have tried to at least take some of thier current food with them as I know how picky my girls are, LOL.

So as I raced home after our football game to evacuate Friday night, this post popped into my head. I thought you were a freaking genius when you posted it, but was so busy I never got around to it.

That fire in west Bexar County Friday night was about a mile from my house, but due to work obligations, I wasn't able to make it home until about 10 hours after it had started. I received conflicting reports all night, about subdivisions around mine evacuating, power being cut, etc. etc. Luckily when I got home I had power, but loaded up about 2 weeks' worth of clothes, the important documents I could find, toiletries, and my dog's bed, food, toys, and bath stuff and bailed for the weekend. Better at midnight with power than to be woken up at 4am and being told I have 5 minutes to get out. I was completely prepared to be stopped on my way home and told I would not be allowed to go back to the house... and would literally run however far until I got to the house to save my dog, but luckily that was not the case.

Since rain still isn't in the forecast, I feel like I need to "redo" all of this. I've got some empty tupperware bins (the 18gal ones) that I used to move, and feel like I should get one packed and ready to go. Contents to include: an unopened package of undies, unopened package of socks, old pair of shoes, an expandable file with anything important or identifying (SS card, passport, credit card info, etc.) and my dog's papers (rabies vaccination certificate), a bag of dog food, bowls, some bottled water, and a toiletries bag packed with trial-sized EVERYTHING... contact solution and case, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion.

Just bumping, I suppose, for any Texans. Never know when you'll be in the line of fire.

My cats, wallet, car keys, cellphone, laptop and toothbrush in that order. If I have any time left especially after rounding up the cats, Iwould grab some photos and a change of clothes.
